The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day resplendent 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
