The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
