The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
