The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
