The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
