Nay, and by the moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers) 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
