Behold! Abraham said to his father and his people: "I do indeed clear myself of what ye worship: 26 Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me." 27 God made (belief in one God) an everlasting task for his successors, so that perhaps they would return (to Him). 28 In fact, I allowed them and their fathers to enjoy this life till the truth, and the apostle preaching it lucidly, came to them. 29 But when the truth came to them, they said: 'This is sorcery, we disbelieve in it' 30 And they say: "Why is not this Quran sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Ta'if)?" 31 Is it they who apportion the mercy of your Lord? It is We who distribute among them their livelihood in the life of this world, and raise some of them above others in rank, so that they may take one another into service; and the mercy of your Lord is better than [the wealth] which they amass. 32 Were it not that all mankind would become a single community (and follow the same way), We would have provided for all those who disbelieve in the Merciful One silver roofs for their houses, and (silver) stairs on which to go up, 33 And doors of silver for their houses and couches of silver upon which they would recline. 34 and ornaments; surely all this is but the enjoyment of the present life, and the world to come with thy Lord is for the godfearing. 35
