The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And the swollen sea, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
