The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And shade extended 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
