Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
