The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
