[AND] the people of Lot gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 160 when their brother Lot said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 161 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 162 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 163 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 164 "Must you, of all people, [lustfully] approach men, 165 keeping yourselves aloof from all the [lawful] spouses whom your Sustainer has created for you? Nay, but you are people who transgress all bounds of what is right!" 166 They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!" 167 He said: verily I am of those who abhor your work. 168 Lord, save me and my family from their deeds." 169 So We delivered him and his followers all, 170 all but an old woman, who was among those that stayed behind; 171 then We destroyed the others. 172 and We sent upon them a rain, an evil rain that fell on those who had been warned. 173 Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 174 your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 175
