The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
