The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 it will be a hard day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Burning the skins! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
