Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
