Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
