The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
