The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the swollen sea 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
