The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Save worshippers. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
