Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
