a good many of olden times, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
