The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
