The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But save him who fears 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
