The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
