And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
