۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 They will turn upon one another, and question one another. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 on couches facing each other. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Most surely this is the mighty achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They found their fathers in error, 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 though We had sent among them warners. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
