The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
