a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
