The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! Surely the record of the wicked is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 A written record. 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 those who give the lie to the [coming of] Judgment Day: 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore. 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 20 To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels). 21 Verily, Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil) will be in delight (Paradise). 22 On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): 23 You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 The seal thereof will be Musk: And for this let those aspire, who have aspirations: 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 The spring from which drink the ones close to Allah. 28 Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the believers. 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 And when they saw them, they said: verily these are the strayed ones. 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
