Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
