The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
