Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ OH, THE LAYING-BARE of the truth! 1 What is the Inevitable? 2 And what do you know what that indubitable event is? 3 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come. 4 The Thamuds were destroyed by a violent blast of sound. 5 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Do you now see any trace of them? 8 Pharoah and those before him and the inhabitants of the overthrown cities persistently committed grave sins. 9 And they disobeyed their Lord's apostle, so He laid hold of them with a grip increasing. 10 When the flood rose high and covered the whole land, We carried you in the Ark. 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, 13 And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow - 14 So that is the day when the forthcoming event will occur. 15 The heaven will be split; because on that Day it will be frail. 16 On its fringes will be angels, eight of them, bearing their Lord's throne aloft. 17 That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed. 18 Then as to him who will be vouchsafed his book in his right hand, he shall say: here! read my book! 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 Then he shall find himself in a life of bliss; 21 In a lofty Garden – 22 With fruits hanging low within reach, 23 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of what you did in days long passed' 24 But as for him whose record shall be placed in his left hand, he will exclaim: "Oh, would that I had never been shown this my record, 25 “And had never come to know my account!” 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 My wealth has been of no use to me. 28 My power hath gone from me. 29 (A command will be issued): “Seize him and shackle him, 30 "And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. 31 "Then fasten him with a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits!" 32 Indeed, he did not use to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 “And did not urge to feed the needy.” 34 so today he has no friend here, 35 "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, 36 "Which none do eat but those in sin." 37
