Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
