The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
