We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and there shall be a curse upon you till the Day of Recompense." 35 He said, “My Lord! Grant me respite till the day when they will all be raised.” 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 till the appointed time. 38 Iblis said: "My Lord! In the manner You led me to error, I will make things on earth seem attractive to them and lead all of them to error, 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 it has seven gates: and each gate has a portion of them allotted to it. 44
