Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
