Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
