The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on the alternate sides and crucify you all." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
