۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and save your gods, if you are men of action." 68 We said, 'O fire, be coolness and safety for Abraham!' 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
