The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
