The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
