Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
