The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
