These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
