The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
