Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
