The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 save those that pray 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
