The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 Of a related orphan, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
