The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,- 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 from a fountain called Salsabila. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
