The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the heavens and that which comes in the night -- 1 And have you understood what the nightly arriver is? 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 There is no soul but has a protector over it. 4 So let man consider from what he is created. 5 He was created from ejaculated water 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Surely He (the Creator) has the power to bring him back (to life). 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then will he have no might nor any helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 And the earth splitting (with plants); 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 But I too am devising a plan. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
